Hi everyone, I’m Katie and I’m officially addicted to the outdoors. Having lived in California for 7 years and now the Pacific Northwest, I have quite a bit of experience hiking, backpacking, and romping around in the great outdoors.
The reason I created this site is to help people maintain a healthy diet while out backpacking and hiking. In my own search for healthy backpacking food, I kept coming across sites that condoned and even encouraged eating junk food while on the trail. I knew I wanted to maintain my healthy lifestyle on long backpacking trips and became frustrated with the lack of information on how to do this. On this site I am going to be sharing my personal experiences and discoveries I’ve had while backpacking throughout the years.
So Now to Me and My Journey to Better Health
After 30 years of eating lots of processed sugar and junk food I realized, despite being a vegetarian, I was very unhealthy. I started having symptoms of candida overgrowth and after months of research I decided the only way to heal my body would be to completely change my lifestyle and diet. This was a tough adjustment but I’ve gotten into a food routine that I can follow pretty easily while at home and I enjoy eating a whole food, plant based diet free of all grains and sugar. My dilemma now was, how can I possibly keep this up while backpacking? I definitely loosen up on my diet a little for backpacking food, at least for longer trips, but I want to eat as well as I can out on the trail and I want to help you do the same.
If I ever say anything that peaks your interest, please do not hesitate to get involved with my site. I love talking about anything related to backpacking, food, and healthy lifestyle choices. If you have opinions or interesting things you want to share I invite you to speak up and leave a comment.
My hope is that this site will inspire someone to trade in the Poptarts and Ramen for healthier options. When you run your body on clean fuel, it runs efficiently. Your body is your most important tool and taking care of it, especially while demanding so much physically, should be a top priority.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org if you need support, advice, or recommendations relating to diet or backpacking. I look forward to hearing from you!
